In the cut-off date of October 18th 2017, the European Commission received 2,123 proposals for SME Instrument Phase II. In this call, 62 projects were selected for funding. ICE2LAST and INSYLO were two of them.
ICE2LAST develops a new ice technology that improves animal welfare and product quality. CubiPLAYA, a Spanish SME dedicated to the manufacturing of food-grade ice, will be in charge of this project that started on April 1st 2018 and will have a duration of 2 years.
In the following call, that ended on the 10th January 2018, 1,163 proposals were submitted. Out of these, 57 have been granted funding, among which we can find the EVOOLUTION and FRESHTRAY projects.
EVOOLUTION, coordinated by the Spanish Multiscan Technologies, an SME focused on applying state-of-the-art vision technologies to sorting activities in the agrifood industry, is a project that develops a quality olive a selection system for the production of olive oil. This project started on June 1st and will last 2 years.
FRESHTRAY presents a new multi-active cardboard packaging solution to extend the shelf-life of fresh fruits and vegetables by 40%. SAECO, a Spanish Murcia-based company dedicated to the manufacture of corrugated cardboard, plates and custom boxes, is the coordinator of this project that started on June 1st 2018 and will have a duration of 20 months.
It should be noted that both ICE2LAST and FRESHTRAY were previously granted SME Phase I funding.
Finally, on the SME Instrument Phase I 8th February 2018 cut-off date, the B2Fresh project also obtained funding from the European Commission. B2Fresh is a project by Food Experts which provides F&V operators with a digital platform to increase efficiency. The project started on May 1st and will finish the 30th of September 2018.
