The EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation

Horizon 2020 is the current European framework programme for Research and Innovation. It counts with a total budget of 72.000 M€, to be distributed from 2014 to 2020.
It provides a new approach for European R&D and innovation funding, aiming to contribute to economic growth and to create job positions in Europe, as referenced in the Europe 2020 Strategy.
This programme represents a huge opportunity to obtain generous funding for excellent R&I initiatives. The European Commission has allocated 4,200 M€ to initiatives related to the challenge:
“Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry, Marine, Maritime and Inland Water Research and the Bioeconomy“.

There are mainly three funding lines, which have been designed to obtain funding both for private and public entities, from SMEs to research centers:

EIC Accelerator SME Instrument

The EIC Accelerator (previous SME Instrument) has been designed for single for-profit SMEs with high-risk, high-potential projects determined to bring them to the market and to scale them up.

Collaborative Projects

Collaborative projects are initiatives that require a minimum of three participants from three different EU Member States or from H2020 associated countries.

Fast Track to Innovation

The Fast Track to Innovation Programme aims to support Europe’s economy by offering innovative businesses and organisations grants to give a final push to get great ideas to market.
We have experience as well in other programmes, all of them related with R&D and innovation.

Besides H2020 there are other European programmes that offer good funding opportunities for innovation in the agri food sector.

In Innovarum we seek for the best programme for each proposal.

LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument supporting environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects throughout the EU. Since 1992, LIFE has co-financed more than 4500 projects. For the 2014-2020 funding period, LIFE will contribute approximately €3.4 billion to the protection of the environment and climate.

The Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI-JU) is a €3.7 billion Public-Private Partnership between the EU and the Bio-based Industries Consortium. It operates under the same rules of Horizon 2020, and it is driven by the Vision and Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda (SIRA) developed by European industry.

Eurostars supports international innovative projects led by research and development -performing small- and medium-sized enterprises (R&D-performing SMEs). With its bottom-up approach, Eurostars supports the development of rapidly marketable innovative products, processes and services. We help companies in their applications and project management and reporting.

The EMFF (European Maritime and Fisheries Fund) is the fund for the EU’s maritime and fisheries policies for 2014-2020. It is one of the five European Structural and Investment (ESI) Funds which complement each other and seek to promote a growth and job based recovery in Europe. Some of the calls released by the EMFF are addressed to funding innovation related with the fisheries sector.
