Today, Innovarum has been in the third edition of “ALIBETOPIAS: new territories in food and beverages”, a day organized jointly by the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries, FIAB and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment, MAPAMA.

The day has gathered companies, technology centres, public administrations and associations, to promote collaboration between the different stakeholders of the food and beverage sector.

Clusters have had a special place in the first panel discussion of the day. Representatives of AINS (Innovative Business Association Nutrition and Health), CLUSAGA (Galicia Food Cluster), Aragon Food Cluster , Food Cluster FOOD + i and VITARTIS (Association of the Food Industry of Castilla y León) have highlighted the role of Clusters as linking elements in a sector that, even though it is very fragmented, has a high innovative potential.

Various companies and organizations have presented their “Innovation Pills”. IMDEA Food , ANFACO-CEOPESCA, AMC Group, AB Azucarera Iberia and Mahou San Miguel have shared their latest innovation projects.

The presentation of the Ecotrophelia Spain 2017 Awards has also taken place today, a contest organized by FIAB to reward young talents from the food and beverage industry. This year, first place went to VAKE IT, a product developed by a group of students from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, integrated in the MonVegan start-up. Vake IT is a preparation to make pastries suitable for vegans.

The second prize was won by students of the Public University of Navarra, who have developed Beer & Bread, a bread made from beer by-products. Third place in the awards went to students from the University of Barcelona, with Vicrack snacks, made from grape bagasse flour.

The day has finished with a panel discussion with representatives of the public sector (MAPAMA), technology centers (National Center of Technology and Food Safety, CNTA) and companies (Bodegas Torres, Grupo Carinsa and Cleanity). This panel highlighted the key role that the European Union gives to “innovation”, both through its framework program for research and innovation Horizon 2020 and through the future document of the Common Agricultural Policy.
